Summer Rabbinic Learning Conference: Expanding the Jewish Canon, Expanding Your Rabbinic Repertoire
Co-sponsored by our Rabbinical Assembly, the Summer Rabbinic Learning Conference is a JTS program that brings rabbis to our New York campus for an intensive learning experience with JTS’s outstanding scholars.
Jewish learning has long focused on texts by an elite group with very particular ideas about Judaism. Join rabbinic colleagues for three days of study transforming the textual heritage we draw upon as rabbis, incorporating voices that have been marginalized historically—including women, Jews of color, LGBTQ Jews, and those with disabilities. JTS faculty and other scholars will introduce new voices into our canon as well as offer tools to read ancient texts through new lenses. We will explore how to use these diversified texts to reach the broad spectrum of our community members through our teaching, in the hopes of creating more inclusive communities.
Faculty and speakers will include:
- Rabbi Eliezer Diamond, PhD, JTS
- Dr. Ora Horn Prouser (JTS PhD ‘91), Academy for Jewish Religion
- Dr. Amy Kalmanofsky, JTS
- Dr. Joy Ladin, Yeshiva University
- Rabbi Jay Michaelson, PhD
- Dr. Michal Raucher, JTS Fellow, Rutgers University
- Rabbi Mychal Springer, JTS
- Rabbi Lauren Tuchman (JTS ’18), Avodah
- Dr. Sarah Wolf, JTS
