Whereas the right to bodily autonomy, including access to safe and legal health care, is a fundamental human right affirmed by numerous medical, legal, and human rights organizations; and

Whereas many states have enacted laws that severely restrict, ban, or limit access to reproductive healthcare (in conflict with the Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act) thereby endangering the health, safety, and civil liberties of all persons who may become pregnant; including women, trans men, nonbinary people, and others; and

Whereas the Rabbinical Assembly has consistently affirmed the inherent dignity and worth of all its members and all individuals, including LGBTQ+ persons, recognizing that efforts to deny this dignity are incompatible with Jewish teachings and principles; and

Whereas the Rabbinical Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to the full dignity, inclusion, and rights of transgender, gender-diverse, and all queer individuals in all areas of public and private life in a resolution in 2025; and

Whereas laws that disproportionately impact marginalized communities, including People of Color, low-income individuals, transgender, gender-diverse, and all queer individuals, and those without the means to travel for medical care are present in some states; and

Whereas laws and practices prohibiting the ability for transgender, gender-diverse, and all queer individuals to live according to their gender identity are present in some states; and

Whereas the presence of our organization in these states may be seen as tacit support for, or indifference to, these harmful policies; and

Whereas the safety and well-being of our members, staff, and partners is of paramount importance when choosing locations for conventions, meetings, and other large gatherings;

Whereas we value the ability  of all members, regardless of gender or gender identity, to attend conventions at will without fear for their safety;

Therefore be it resolved that the RA affirms its responsibility to advocate for the well-being of all LGBTQ+ people as well as to promote the ability for all people to access the medical care they may need; and

Be it further resolved that the RA condemns any efforts to prevent pregnant people from accessing the healthcare they need; and

Be it further resolved  that the RA opposes any state or federal policies that result in discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and opposes regulations that limit essential access to reproductive health care; and

Be it further resolved that we cherish the health and well-being of all our members who reside in those states and seek to ensure their own, their families’ and their congregations’ and communities’ ability to access medical care among our highest values.
