JTS Track

Note: Due to cancellations, there are several spaces now available -- for more info, contact Hayim Herring.

The JTS track comprises 10 hours of learning during the convention. It is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM on Sunday, May 6 and finish at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9. The sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday overlap with breakfast and limmud. We have scheduled sessions so that you will still be able to attend most plenary sessions and all evening programs.

Dialogue on Keruv, Conversion, and Intermarriage

Note: this session is only open to RA members registered for Convention.

Two very important sessions will be taking place on Monday from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM and Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:15 PM. To prepare for these sessions, we have a few important requests for you:

  1. Select up to 3 Affinity Groups with whom you would like to begin the conversation on Monday’s session. During these dialogues you will be sitting in two different kinds of small groups: an “affinity group” and a “mixed group.” Our goal is to understand how these issues play out among different geographies, in the various settings in which you work and how the issues vary (or remain constant) for rabbis of different generations. Please select up to 3 affinity groups from this list with whom you identify and feel a connection (more than one might apply).
  2. Please select and bring with you to Atlanta an artifact (object, picture, poem, quote, text or other type of symbol) that conveys the essence of Judaism you aspire to transmit through your rabbinate—as it relates to our topic. You will be using these symbols to help introduce yourself to others in the dialogues.

Victor Center Genetic Screening

Screen or Update your screening for all 19 diseases to help ensure the birth of your next child! Maximum $25 with insurance.

Did you know that 1 in 4 Jews is a carrier of at least 1 in 19 preventable Jewish genetic diseases? All it takes is a simple blood test to find out if you're a carrier! The Victor Centers for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases is hosting a screening at Convention on Tuesday, May 8, from 12:00pm - 5:00pm.

Pre-registration saves time. Walk-ins are welcome. Maximum cost for screenings for insured individuals is $25. If you are uninsured or have an HSA, please contact the Victor Center for additional information at 877-401-1093. Financial assistance is available in cases of financial hardship. Register online today for the RA Screening.

As member of the clergy community, you can lead by example. Get screened and help your congregants get screened for 19! Through the synagogues and grass-roots leadership in the 1960s, Tay Sachs has all but been eradicated. You can help us be the generation that took a huge step toward eradicating the other 18 diseases. Looking forward to seeing you there.

We hope you will take the lead to build awareness and create a screening in your community. Contact us at info@victorcenters.org.
